The Military Knights of Windsor at the Garter Day Ceremony, Windsor Castle, wearing uniforms tailored by Meyer and Mortimer |
Meyer & Mortimer tailors regularly travelled to France to measure British army officers for uniforms during the Napoleonic Wars. Some of their uniforms were worn at the Battle of Waterloo. An interesting point was that the company sent out its bills in guineas - the old currency of one pound and one-shilling - rather than in pounds sterling. This was to allow for a built-in interest payment as military officers at the time were notoriously late payers. Meyer and Mortimer’s military tradition continues to be an important part of the company, as they travel the world to meet the needs of discerning clients, including Royal families throughout the world; the company also continues to supply ceremonial uniforms, dress uniforms, suits and tweeds for officers and continues to be outfitters to the Military Knights of Windsor by Royal appointment. In In additon to fine tailoring military uniforms, Meyer and Mortimer also offer Military swords, produced to an exacting standard and made to United Kingdom MOD specifications, each with their own unique serial number. Blades are stainless steel, hand-forged and finished with acid etched to any design. Our associated companies of Ward and Kruger and Jones Chalk & Dawson also offer specialise in fine tailoring for military uniforms.
